Artwork of a large pink ear of corn with a smiling face, closed eyes, and long eyelashes, on a background of swirling blue, green, and white patterns. The scene is set behind a long stretch of empty desert highway with a golden sky, overlaid with a black border and the text '25 Cornfield' and a Route 66 shield.

25     CORNFIELD

KEY CONCEPTS:  mystery, hidden motives, good fortune, right place, right time, hope, bright prospects, the future. (Corresponds to Star)

MESSAGE: Each growing season yields mysteries far beyond the farmer’s knowledge, even beyond the scope of her trusty almanac.  Outcomes, like seeds, lie buried beneath fertile soil.  They hide in luxuriant darkness.  There’s always so much more in the Cornfield than what the farmer planted.

Sun, rain, soil and weeds all defy the cultivators’ control, as do hungry insects who find results of her garden labors irresistibly tasty.  The planter’s careful plans mean nothing to blackbirds, deer, raccoons…nor hungry humans who dare to purloin ears from her tidily-tended corn rows.  Hordes of uninvited interlopers wreak havoc on crop outcomes.  Anyone could conceal a secret agenda; who knows what to expect?  Not our grower, to be sure. Many factors thwart the tractor: setbacks dampen the farmer’s hopes for a bountiful harvest. But heck…even a total control freak can’t guard crops 24/7. Cornfield resists the farmer’s plan…in favor of a greater one.  From the first kernel planted, the garden belonged to the Divine, as anyone with ears could tell you.

Challenges peel away the husk when a seed is ripe to sprout.  If you pulled this card, bright prospects blossom now; your perseverance pays off.  Divide the fruits of your labor and fortune multiplies, bringing sunny outcomes to everyone secretly inhabiting “your” field. Sharing feels great…you don’t get a choice, anyway.  You waste precious time and energy struggling to shut others out.  Are you hiding success under a bushel basket? Divine plans supersede your own.  Cornstalks of the field neither toil nor spin…but the Infinite arrays them in silks and starlight.  It will do no less for you, dear traveler.  Constellations move in their courses; they rest in celestial consciousness.  Our little corn ear is full of good cheer; take heart.  When you keep a seed clutched in your hand it never germinates -  but bury it, and it begins to grow.  We all need to occupy appropriate space to achieve greatness.  If you break off an ear before it ripens, it tastes yucky.  But if you wait for the proper season, it’s a scrumptious delight. Cornfield tells you the right place is here, the right time is now, and your bright future’s rising with the dawn.
